Asked if he looks up to other players who have gone through the same lower league route as himself, Charles said: “If you look at where he came from, he came from lower than where I was playing and his journey has been incredible.

“It’s something younger, nonleague players can look up to and think, if I work hard and do everything right, it’s still possible. You can’t ever be written off.”

Town could be set for a busy summer, with a number of first-team players approachin­g the end of their current deals.

HUDDERSFIE­LD Town fans are one of ten Championsh­ip clubs placed under a transfer embargo late last month - but the issue is not as alarming as that might make it sound.

Town, Reading, Sheffield Wednesday and Stoke City were all hit with the penalty in late March, though the Terriers’ embargo has now been removed.

Essentiall­y, HMRC have allowed a three-month extension to the filing of club accounts, but the EFL hasn’t.

Town’s accounts are not late in HMRC’s eyes, but the EFL require that box ticked in March. They have imposed the embargo on the clubs who did not meet that deadline.

It is not expected that this will affect the Terriers longerterm in any way.
