Motorway cop’s blast for tailgating drivers
A HIGH-PROFILE motorway cop has lashed out at ‘tailgaters’ after major disruption on the M62.
Pc Martin Willis aka ‘Motorway Martin,’ a Roads Policing Unit (RPU) officer with West Yorkshire Police has blasted bad driving after a collision near Huddersfield yes- terday.
Motorway Martin, who became a household name after he heroically held onto a van to stop it from falling off a motorway bridge in 2017, has reminded motorists of the dangers of following other vehicles too closely at high speed.
He revealed yesterday’s incident involved two vehicles in the fast lane.
The incident eastbound between J22 Scammonden and J23 Outlane towards Huddersfield, forced officers to close lanes two and three.
Pc Willis commented: “This heavy stop start traffic on the #M62 this morning was caused by a two-vehicle collision in lane three. “Approximately 3 miles of crawling traffic due to a driver following too close to the vehicle in front and likely looking no further ahead than the end of their bonnet!”

“Motorway drivers are getting worse! Tunnel visioned drivers,” said one.
“See this daily,” said another. “If I’d a pound every time I say ‘they’ll never stop in time, too close,’” they added.
Yesterday wasn’t a great one for M62 users with other incidents at J19 near the Greater Manchester border and at J27 near Leeds both causing disruption.
