A MAN has described the trauma of suffering a broken leg in a sudden and unprovoked attack on a night out in Halifax.

Ross Halstead was walking along Crown Street in the town centre at around midnight last Sunday when he was blindsided with a punch to the back of the head.

He stumbled forward, catching his foot in the pavement and breaking his tibia and fibia as he fell.

Ross, 34, looked up just in time to see the boot of one of his attackers swing hard into his face.

His friend, who was a few steps ahead, about to enter the Get Stuffed takeaway, was also punched in the back of the head but managed to recover to stop the yobs doing any more damage to Ross before they ran away.

Ross recalled: “It happened in a flash, I wasn’t even aware anyone was around. There was a bit of noise and then one minute I was heading towards the takeaway and the next I was on the floor.

“I’ve been struck towards the back of my head at the side and stumbled forwards, I’m not sure the point that my legs got caught in the floor but when you don’t expect it I was out of balance.

“Then, on the floor, I’ve looked up to one of them kicking me in the face, my glasses are in bits but luckily I’ve got away with no facial fractures.”

Ross was rushed to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

He said: “It’s going to be a long old road to recovery for me and I’m in a lot of discomfort at the moment but I’ll bounce back and it could have been worse, even though right now it doesn’t feel like it.”

West Yorkshire Police are investigating the attack.

“I’ve no idea who they were really,” Ross said. “From being sat on the floor I could see they were two young lads, one shorter than the other and that’s about it.

“I’ve never had any trouble in Halifax and I’ve lived here all my life.”

Then, on the floor, I looked up to one of them kicking me in
