I was so proud of you and your Army career
DEVASTATED UNCLE LEADS TRIBUTES AS MISSING SOLDIER FOUND DEAD
MORE than 200 people have left tributes in memory of a soldier after his body was found.
West Yorkshire Police officers and Army members were seen searching for missing Sgt James Byrne close to the Crosland Heath Golf Club in Crosland Moor.
Sadly, late on Wednesday night his body was discovered and his family informed – including his father Martin Byrne, a well-known former director of Huddersfield Town Football Club.
James, 29, who had witnessed harrowing sights during his service in Afghanistan, had been diagnosed with PTSD.
Martin had been trying desperately to get him some expert psychiatric help but said he had been banging his head against a brick wall.
Uncle John Doyle wrote on The Examiner’s Facebook page: “May God bless you Sgt Byrne.
“Feeling so so sad today James, thinking of you as a kid growing up with the rest of our lot.
“I was so proud of you and your Army career. Won’t ever forget coming to watch your Passing Out Parade.”
Donna Quinn wrote: “So sad to hear this. This young man has obviously needed help for a long time!
“There is just not enough help out there for mental health. So sorry for all the family.”
And Tina Newsome said: “Think this lad went missing from hospital earlier this year. A cry for help. His family did everything they could for him.
“How many more people out there need our help for serious MH problems? At least now he has found his peace.”
Clare Silman expressed the view of many, saying: “So sorry for James’s family. We need to do more in this country to support our ex-army; this has to stop.”
Sarah Lowe added: “Stand down soldier, your duty is done. May you rest in eternal peace.
“Thoughts go out to family and friends. Heartbreaking for all and another life was taken by what seems to be the demon that is mental health.”
Sandra Phillips said: “What an awful place you must have been in. Thoughts with your family.”
