PUBS OFFERING WALK-INS AS LOCKDOWN RESTRICTIONS LIFTED

- Connor.teale@examiner.co.uk @cteale_

HARDENED drinkers have been at the mercy of the weather since lockdown restrictions were eased last month.

As part of the government’s roadmap out of lockdown, pubs, bars and restaurants partially reopened on April 12.

But revellers have not been allowed inside a pub for many months - as rules stipulated the hospitality industry could only serve customers seated outdoors.

That rule is set to change today, when step three of the roadmap will come into force, and drinkers will once again be welcomed indoors.

The change is sure to be welcome news to many - but some confusion still remains over whether an old fashioned last-minute trip to the pub will be possible.

With demand high and booking systems common, many of us have become accustomed to pre-planning a night out months before it is set to happen. Thankfully, that will not be necessary if you are thinking of visiting some pubs in Huddersfield from today.

We have compiled a list of the pubs in the town centre which have told the Examiner they will be

operating a walk-in service from today.

Whether you are waiting for a train or stopping off on a night out, The Head of Steam will be open to walk-ins from today.

The Kings Head has confirmed it will be operating a walk-in policy on a first come, first served basis. The pub will also be operating a booking service for anyone “who wants to do this in advance to avoid disappointment”.

The Sportsman will be accepting both walk-ins and bookings from 12.00pm today.

A booking will not be necessary at The Cherry Tree from today.

‘Huddersfield’s first non-stop live entertainment venue’ will be operating a walk-in only policy.

Parish will be accepting walk-ins, but you can still book a table in advance.

The Plumbers Arms will be walk-in only from today.

There will be no need to book in advance at the traditional pub, close to Huddersfield bus station.

The lively chain venue has confirmed there will be some walk-in availability, but has warned: “If we do not have the space we will have to turn people away.”

You will be able to book a table in advance.

The community pub, owned by Ossett Brewery, has confirmed it will be operating a walk-in only policy.

The Grove will be open for walk-ins from tomorrow. It will be closed today.

The pub is currently undergoing some renovation work and so WILL NOT open today. A target date of May 24 has been set and the pub will operate a walk-in only policy.

A spokesman said: “We have started doing some work to the inside of the pub and are running a bit behind schedule. We are aiming to be open for the week of the 24th and will be walk-in only.”
