FAMILY and friends have paid tribute to a muchloved mum and grandma who was killed in a horror crash.

The woman who died, named locally as Jeanette Mason, was walking on a path when a Fiat Panda left the road and hit her at 9am on Friday.

Floral tributes have since been placed at the scene on Wakefield Road in Waterloo.

Mrs Mason, who was married and in her 50s, tragically died at the scene as a result of injuries she sustained.

Her friends and family have been left devastated. Friends posted their condolences on the ExaminerLive Facebook page.

One woman said: “Absolutely shocked and devastated to hear this sad news of one of my school friends.

“My thoughts go out to all the family at this very sad time. Gone way too soon, fly high with the angels beautiful.”

Another friend wrote: “RIP my beautiful friend. All the Waterloonis will be raising a glass for you, sleep tight sweetheart.”

Mrs Mason was described as a lovely, kind woman who was always helping others and lived for her family.

On Friday, West Yorkshire Police’s Major Collision and Enquiry Team (MCET) appealed for witnesses to the collision to come forward.

Police said that emergency services were called to the scene at about 9.02am following reports a beige Fiat Panda had been in collision with a taxi before colliding with a wall and a female pedestrian walking on the path.

The 71-year-old male driver of the car was arrested in connection with the incident.

Detective Inspector Paul Conroy, of MCET, said on Friday: “This has been a dreadful incident in which a woman has lost her life, and specialist officers are working to support her family.

“We are carrying out a full investigation into the circumstances of what took place and due to the seriousness of the collision, road closures will remain in place at the scene through much of today. “I am appealing for witnesses who saw the incident or who saw the manner in which the Fiat Panda was being driven just before the collision.

“Anyone who has information phone or dashcam footage of the crash is asked to contact MCET on 101, referencing police log 0379 of May 14.
