Empty shelves and no reply from Johnson

-

I REALISE that it is a bit like picking a scab but it is satisfying in its own way.

There will be shortages in supermarkets for the foreseeable future because of Brexit. There I’ve said it but someone had to.

Our fearless leader, Johnson, fresh from dodging the news media to avoid questioning on his Kabul cock-up, is carefully ignoring the looming crisis developing in our supermarkets because of policies his government has enacted.

Shortages caused by foreign lorry drivers means that transport costs and therefore shelf prices will rise.

The Business secretary’s response when asked for special visas is to say that employers must look to home grown talent.

Well yes but it takes at least nine months to get an HGV licence and there is a six month backlog at the licencing centre next year then... maybe.

Migrant agricultural workers have not yet been replaced and warehouse staff likewise so Christmas may be cancelled due to Boris and his gang of incompetents.

Keep your cash handy

A LONG time ago my Mum said to me: “Always make sure you have a few bob in your pocket lad.”

She knew the value of having that few bob in times of need when being a widow in the 1940s was a real struggle. I bet lots of people in Louisiana must have wished they had some cash, after being hit by

Hurricane Ida. This plunged the state into darkness with no electrical power. A contactless credit card in times like this is not much use.

Since the pandemic cash is slowly but surely being phased out by the banks. Why get rid of it when reality is showing us that we do need it and always will?
