It’s a wrap! Jack stars toast filming second series

- By MONDE MWITUMWA

GENTLEMAN Jack is almost back on our screens.

The period drama – based on Halifax landowner and industrialist Anne Lister, played by Suranne Jones – concluded filming the second series earlier this week.

Based on her diaries, which revealed a ‘modern day’ lesbian relationship, the show was wellreceived and has built a huge fan base.

The BBC has yet to announce a start date for season 2 but stars Suranne Jones and Sophie Rundle have given a huge update on social media as they celebrated finishing filming.

Suranne posted a snap of the pair to her Instagram enjoying a glass of bubbly.

She captioned the pic: “Over and out,” followed by a red heart emoji, “love you @sophiesophierundle.”

This suggests the release could be early 2022.

Where is Gentleman Jack filmed?

THE hit drama is mostly filmed on location in Halifax – and around Anne Lister’s native Yorkshire.

The crew has also been spotted in Leeds, Saltaire and Birstall.

Gentleman Jack cast for season 2

SURANNE Jones will return as Anne Lister and star Sophie Rundle is back playing Anne’s wife, Ann.

Gemma Whelan (Marian), Timothy West (Captain Lister), Gemma Jones (Anne Lister’s aunt, who is also called Anne), Peter Davison (William Priestley), Amelia Bullmore (Eliza Priestley), Rosie Cavaliero (Elizabeth Cordingley), Joe Armstrong (Samuel Washington) and Tom Lewis (Thomas Sowden) will also be back in West Yorkshire for the second series.

What is season 2 about?

THE series will be about Anne and Ann’s relationship progressing, and that the content of Anne’s diaries will continue to inspire the plot. In an interview with Digital Spy, creator Sally Wainwright revealed more on the storyline.

She said: “They move into Shibden together in series 2 and it’s about how they negotiate their married life, conspicuously in public, and how they deal with their detractors and the effect that has on their relationship as well.

“There’s no end of stories, the diaries, this huge wealth of knowledge.”

If the series sticks with the couple’s real-life story, we may expect them to travel around more.

Where to watch the show

GENTLEMAN Jack will air on BBC one and HBO. Season 1 is available to stream on BBCiPlayer.
