TYSON Fury labelled Deontay Wilder ‘weak’ before a blazing argument erupted between the heavyweights at their final pre-fight press conference, leading to a traditional staredown being scrapped.

The Brit defends his WBC title on Saturday against a fighter he defeated to become champion, and it was the outcome of that bout 20 months ago and the American’s unfounded allegations of cheating - that was the catalyst for a heated row.

Wilder had earlier doubled down on his assertion Fury had only prevailed in their second fight because of underhanded minutes to go at Magic (Weekend, when Catalans beat them 31-30).

“Being underdogs isn’t something that worries us. We know we have a great team here, a great set-up, a great plan. If we execute well, I think we can beat anybody.

“St Helens will be saying they don’t see themselves as favourites, but obviously they do, they’ve been the benchmark, they’ve been the best team for a few years.

“We can go out there, enjoy ourselves and have a crack at it. We’re not expected to win - we’ll just do all we can to do it.” tactics and said: “I don’t regret it, I will go to my grave believing what I believe.”

But in his closing remarks, Fury, who was accused without any evidence of

With Tomkins now able to “sort of see the end of my career, whether it will be the end of next year, the year after”, he says it means a little bit more to be named Man of Steel compared to when he first achieved the feat in 2012.

Having gone from being an apprentice greenkeeper at a golf club in Wigan to making over 200 appearances across two spells with the town’s club, Tomkins moved on to Catalans in 2019.

The father of four says France has not changed him as a person but “opened my eyes to a new culture that I’m really enjoying” and “made me and my family probably stronger and closer”. tampering with his gloves last time out, asked why Wilder had brought in new trainer Malik Scott and overhauled his preparation for this trilogy contest.

Fury said: “I ask the question, if I only won because I cheated, what was the point of changing everything and doing all this other work?

“Deep down in his soul, he knows that he lost and he’ll lose again. After this fight he’ll be back working in that fast food chain that he was working at earlier on in his career. It’s retirement for him.

“You’re in denial and you’re getting knocked out. Do yourself a favour and retire, your legacy’s in bits, all the excuses, you’ve been destroyed. No one’s even believed you, everyone’s laughing.”
