Town look for home comfort against Lions

-

away side won either fixture. The 3-0 win in October last year was perhaps one of Town’s best performances of the season, conversely the 1-0 home defeat in January one of their worst.

Since 2010 there have been 13 games between the two sides. The Terriers have won seven and drawn two. Of the four defeats one we shall write off anyway. Millwall were the opponents in that weird last game of the season after Danny Cowley had departed.

History suggests nothing to fear then, but what about form?

This season Millwall were the draw specialists at the start of the campaign but have now parlayed that form into wins with four victories in their last five games.

The worrying thing for Town is that they are facing one of the best away sides in the division. The Lions have only lost once on their travels season to date. Seven games away from the Den, only seven goals conceded, two wins and four draws, ten points collected.

This form is built around being incredibly tough to break down and then upping the pressure second half – basically, the same exact same model Town try to apply in away fixtures. They won’t counter until they sense a genuine opportunity so patience finding gaps is required from the Terriers eleven if they don’t force an early goal.

They don’t score many – Millwall have only scored more than once in two games this season and only have seven on the road. In short, we wouldn’t be backing a 4-3 win either way here.

Millwall are in with Town in that clutch of seven clubs on 21 points this season. Town sit higher thanks to a goal difference of +1 against their opponents 0. Not much to separate these two in truth.

Millwall are likely to employ a low block for most of the game tomorrow and even more so if they manage to get a goal ahead as they did in last season’s fixture. They are good at it too, so Town will need to take a few risks and may need to push Lewis O’Brien close to Danny Ward as they did against Blackburn.

Town can expect to have their 3-4-3 matched in terms of formation but the Lions three is likely to play more like a five with two in front of it. Manager Gary Rowett knows his side’s strengths and will start by trying not to lose the game. Whether they can win it is often merely a bonus.

So Millwall are built to make life difficult for the home side and play in a way that historically Town have struggled against. A tight game ahead. The manager Gary Rowett is one of those who is well north of 400

We are going for a 1-0 Town win. This is a setpiece game and Town are very good a set
