HUDDERSFIELD Town supporters have banded together to raise funds to help the family of a fan who passed away last week.

Lifelong Terrier Daryl Hopson – who had become well known among Town fans – sadly lost his battle with stage 4 cancer, at 4.05pm last Thursday.

In response to the heartbreaking news, many fans, players and the club itself paid tribute to the young man who had brought so much joy and enthusiasm when he cheered for his beloved team.

Huddersfield Town FC said Daryl “has been an inspiration in the way he has fought against his illness” as the club passed on its best wishes to his family. Huddersfield Town added he had shown “true #TerrierSpirit” throughout his life.

In a statement uploaded to Twitter, the club said: “Everyone at #htafc would like to send their heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Daryl Hopson... He’ll be remembered by us all.”

Town left-back Harry Toffolo also offered his condolences, saying: “Inspirational young man. You have certainly left a legacy, may you Rest In Peace my friend.”

Just one day after the news broke, a crowdfunding page was launched to try and raise funds for his family to give Daryl the send off he deserves.

A post shared on the gofundme page launched for the campaign reads: “We are fundraising for help towards Daryl’s funeral for his sister Chelsea for expenses to give him the send off he deserves.

“As you all know Daryl was a massive Huddersfield Town Fan who unfortunately lost his battle to Cancer on 28th April 2022 at 16:05. He influenced a lot of people and had a lot of friends so let’s give this brave man the send off he deserves! ONCE A TERRIER ALWAYS A TERRIER”

At the time of writing, the campaign is already more than half way towards its £5,000 goal, and had even received the blessing of the Huddersfield Town Supporters’ Association (HTSA) who shared the campaign with their members and supporters.
