Blow for Town as Lewis ruled out with injury

LEWIS O’Brien will miss Huddersfield Town’s final game of the regular Championship season against Bristol City with a hip injury – with Levi Colwill, Danel Sinani and Danny Ward also doubts.

Carlos Corberan confirmed the news at his morning press conference yesterday.

The head coach revealed that O’Brien has been playing through the pain of a hip injury for some time.

Corberan said the injury is ‘not a big problem’ but that the decision has been made to rest the midfielder for today’s 12.30pm kick-off while he receives medical treatment.

It is hoped he will be back available for the play-offs next weekend.

Sorba Thomas has also been ruled out of this weekend’s game after suffering a knee injury against Middlesbrough last month.

The winger has not yet resumed normal training and continues to work with the club’s medical staff in hopes of having him back for the play-offs, but Corberan said that as with Matty Pearson (knee), it is currently unclear whether that will come to pass.

Sinani missed last weekend’s win at Coventry City with a groin injury while Ward made his return from a hamstring injury, which has limited their involvement in training this week. Colwill has also been unable to complete the full week’s training with an unspecified issue.

All three players were expected to train on Friday and their involvement against Bristol City will depend on how well they get through the day.

Corberan said he does not think Tino Anjorin is ready to play 90 minutes yet and that he will need to analyse the possibilities available to him depending on which other members of the squad are capable of seeing out the game.

More positively, Josh Koroma has been back in training this week after missing the last two games with a hamstring issue, with Corberan confirming the winger is available for selection if he opts to make use of him.

Midfielder Alex Vallejo (knee) and goalkeeper Ryan Schofield (shoulder) are Town’s longest-term absentees. Both are expected to miss the rest of the season.
