Illness kept Levi out of first game

-

HUDDERSFIELD Town centre-back Levi Colwill was kept out of the side for their play-off first leg against Luton Town on Friday evening after feeling ill earlier in the week.

Naby Sarr lined up on the left of the Terriers’ back three alongside Tom Lees and Jonathan Hogg, with Chelsea loanee Colwill only passed fit enough to take a place on the bench.

“He’s fine but he couldn’t make the full week of training because he felt unwell at the start of the week,” said Carlos Corberan. “Analysing the game and the performances of the team we decided to put in Sarr because we thought he could make a good contribution to the team, which he did.”

Corberan confirmed the change he made at the break on Friday was forced by injury rather than being a purely tactical move after Ollie Turton picked up a knock.

The head coach said: “He was injured in the last action of the first half. It’s too early [to say if he can play Monday]. Let’s see what the injury is and how many days he needs to recover.”

However, Corberan felt that Pipa’s introduction coupled with switching Duane Holmes from the left wing to play ahead of the right wing-back had a positive impact on his side’s second-half performance, saying: “I think the fact we put Holmes on the right side allowed him to grow more and counterattack more with the ball.

“As soon as you put together Holmes, Pipa and even Sinani – who was switching side too to attack – you start to accumulate players together that know how to play football and change the feeling of the game.

“They were clearly changing the game, but it’s true that during the last minutes Luton changed to a 4-4-2 diamond to stop our four players in the middle and balance the situation more in the middle of the pitch.

“That’s why I told you we need to be looking for a solution for what is probably going to happen in the next game.”
