Thomas hopes to be proved right

- By STEVEN CHICKEN

HUDDERSFIELD Town will be hoping Sorba Thomas’s words, after helping them to victory over Luton Town last month, apply once again tonight as they prepare to go into a testing play-off second leg with the tie still hanging in the balance.

Luton skipper Sonny Bradley cancelled out Danel Sinani’s early opener with half time still on the horizon, and it was no less than Nathan Jones’s side deserved after they had dominated the first half.

But the second period was a different story as Carlos Corberan’s Terriers put themselves firmly on top of the territory and possession, and while it did not produce a winner, their improvement over the final 45 minutes will come as a welcome boost to their confidence ahead of what is now a winner-take-all clash on Monday evening.

The whole first leg was played at a furious tempo right from the off and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see a few tired legs start to emerge by the time we get to the end of the deciding game... and if Thomas’s analysis last time out is correct, that could be in Town’s favour.

The winger felt he and his team-mates showed themselves to be the fitter side when the sides met at the John Smith’s Stadium last month, saying after that 2-0 victory: “We want to make it so teams don’t want to come here and I felt like in the first half we started off well, then they got into the game a bit.

“I felt like in the second half they tried to high press us and I felt like our fitness showed that we were fitter than them. I felt like they blew out and we just got stronger.

“You could see that in the game. Towards the end we could have got threes and fours.”
