Duo’s birthday tribute to inspirational teacher who ‘lit a fire’ for learning

-

INSPIRATIONAL Huddersfield teacher Pat Jarman died aged 86 at her home in Brighouse in January, after many years of illness.

Two of her former students, Liz Ryan and Margaret Belk, are placing a memorial in the Examiner to mark Pat’s birthday on June 7, in memory of “the wonderful young enthusiastic teacher who had such an impact on our lives”.

Pat’s first job was at Batley Girls Grammar School before she became head of English at St Gregory’s at Bradley Bar which, in 1974, amalgamated with St Augustine’s Secondary School to become All Saints.

Margaret was good friends with Pat, and Liz also remained in close touch over the years.

They say she was a vibrant teacher who organised student trips to theatres, to see the young Judy Dench and Diana Rigg at Stratford, and Ian McKellen in Leeds.

Pat sadly had to retire early because of her health.

The pair wanted to put on record what a significant person she had
