Ram Ravel not on radar for Terriers this summer

- By DAVID FLETT

REPORTS linking Ravel Morrison with a move to Huddersfield Town have no substance, the Examiner understands.

The Derby County midfielder has been touted as a possible summer target for the Terriers by the Football Insider website, who claim Preston and Sunderland are interested in his services.

But Examiner sources have confirmed the Jamaica international is not on Carlos Corberan’s radar, although it would not be a surprise to see Morrison sign for a Championship rival with relegated Derby still in administration.

Morrison, 29, will be available on a free transfer when his contract runs out next week.

Under Rams chief Wayne Rooney last season, he breathed life back into an unfulfilled and nomadic career that many felt was beyond saving, following underachieving stints at 12 clubs in five different countries.

His return of four goals and four assists during a career-best 36 league outings for Derby saw Morrison surprise many who had written him off following his last spell in the English game when he only managed a combined total of four league appearances for Sheffield United and Middlesbrough in 2019/20.

Rooney has received understandable credit for getting Morrison out on the pitch and producing consistently for the Rams who, for long periods of the campaign, threated to escape relegation despite their 21 point deduction.

But plenty of managers have failed where Rooney has succeeded regarding Morrison and Corberan still has the mainstays from the midfield that steered the club to a thirdplaced finish and play-off final in place.

Speculation is likely to surround a possible departure for Lewis O’Brien right until the transfer window closes, but he remains under contract at the John Smith’s Stadium, as do Jon Russell, Jonathan Hogg and Scott High.
