A BRAND new bar and restaurant has opened its doors in Huddersfield this weekend.

Opening on Friday night for the first time, Zeaw is a Thai kitchen and bar.

It is based in the town centre in Byram Street, Westgate, Huddersfield and has taken over the space where popular Zephyr Bar used to be. Zephyr was one of Huddersfield’s best known restaurants, before being put up for sale last year, leaving many customers disappointed.

Like many bars and restaurants, the spot was put up for sale following the Covid-19 pandemic.

Situated in a Grade II listed building, the restaurant was listed with a price tag of £70,000. And while it isn’t the restaurant everyone once knew, it is now home to a restaurant and bar with bright lights, and a huge food and drink menu. The spot has an all-pink interior, colourful bunting, and is a hub for meeting up with friends.

It specialises in Asian beers, which can be served in a beer tower and a range of Thai-style nibbles.

There is a wide selection of spirits for customers to enjoy and classic as well as signature cocktails.

With three floors there is plenty of room for customers, and the new hospitality hub is expected to be busy since opening.

There is also an outdoor seating area. For those who are looking for a place to dance, the venue is the place to be for RnB and hip-hop music lovers.

Zeaw is open from 12pm until 2am.

But there has already been controversy about the removal of the iconic Neaverson’s lettering on the building.

Neaverson’s – purveyors of pottery and glass – began life in 1893 in premises on Cross Church Street, Huddersfield town centre, before moving to the Grade I-listed Byram Street building in 1935. Their lettering was removed from the outside of the building but it is understood it is now in the process of being restored.

It has taken over the space where the popular Zephyr Bar used to be Lucy Marshall
