Nicholls back in training after surgery on shoulder

THE Terriers have shared a welcome sight in their latest video from inside the training ground with goalkeeper Lee Nicholls now back on the grass with his colleagues after having shoulder surgery in January.

The reigning Town player of the year has been an outstanding performer for the club since arriving on a free transfer from Milton Keynes Dons in summer 2021, but was ruled out for the rest of the campaign after picking up his injury during the Championship clash with Luton Town on New Year’s Day.

Town signed Czech international Tomas Vaclik from Olympiacos for an undisclosed fee on January transfer deadline day, and he has shared the gloves with Australian youth international Nicholas Bilokapic in Nicholls’s absence.

Nicholls is just one of several players to have suffered serious long-term injuries this season. Yuta Nakayama ruptured his ACL in November, Tino Anjorin has been out with an ankle injury since December, and Ollie Turton departed last month’s trip to Wigan with an ACL injury.

None of those players – Nicholls included – are currently expected to be available to play a part for Town this season, but having the goalkeeper back on the training pitch is positive news for Town regardless even if it only means that he will have a good head-start on next season.

Short-term signing Vaclik confirmed that hope last week , saying: “I think the idea of Huddersfield is just for me to be here until May because they have Lee and Lee is going to be fully fit by the end of this season and he is going to be one hundred percent ready for the next season.

“I think I’m just here to cover this time when Lee is out.”
