Killer had himself been the victim of street violence at 12

-

F-TOWN gang ‘slave’ Jakele Pusey had himself been the victim of street violence when he was just 12 years old.

The 15-year-old killer, who stabbed Khayri in the chest as he walked home from school in Woodhouse Hill, Huddersfield, had been blasted with a shotgun outside a Huddersfield community centre in March 2020.

A passenger in a stolen BMX X5 had opened fire on him as he chatted with friends.

The shotgun attack was revealed yesterday at a sentencing hearing at Leeds Crown Court for the two teenagers who murdered Khayri in September last year.

The judge, The Honourable Mrs

Justice Farbey DBE, said the shooting took place when he was just 12 outside a community centre and was carried out by “more than one masked man”.

She said it is the probation’s view that has “had a significant traumatic effect”.

Richard Wright, representing the 15-year-old, said “my understanding is there is no suggestion he was targeted but it was a shooting that occurred in the context of wider violence and he was the victim of that.”

The shotgun attack happened outside Northfield Hall Community Centre in Brackenhall,

Huddersfield, on March 10, 2020.

The victim was left seriously injured and was left with 25 shotgun pellets lodged in his head and body. In 2021, the boy’s mum told a court that her son was still in pain and had sleepless nights.

She said: “I know that he thinks about revenge and I don’t want him to think like that.”

She told the court in 2021: “He is now a very angry young boy, he bottles things up,” she said in a statement read to the court.

“He gets angry, a total change to how he used to be. I know that he thinks about revenge and I don’t want him to think like that.

“He refuses to go to

Huddersfield, even with me. His sleep is dreadfully affected and he is often awake at night.”
