Town in talks with Ward and Koroma for new deals

- By STEVEN CHICKEN

HUDDERSFIELD Town have announced their retained list for summer 2023, revealing that they are in negotiations with forwards Danny Ward and Josh Koroma over new deals but that nothing has yet been formally signed.

The pair are set to go out of contract next month, with Koroma’s one-year extension clause having been triggered last year while Ward had no such clause included in his deal, which he signed upon his return to Huddersfield Town in 2020.

Josh Ruffels and Tomas Vaclik will be released having both played a significant part in helping Town avoid the drop to League One.

The left-back hit his best form for Town under Neil Warnock but would likely have been expected to be backup to the returning Yuta Nakayama next season had he stayed.

Czech international goalkeeper Vaclik arrived on a short-term contract in January as cover for the injured Lee Nicholls, who was expected to miss the rest of the season but returned in time to play the final three games of the campaign. Florian Kamberi will also depart, as does winger Rolando Aarons.

Several academy graduates with first-team experience will leave, with Ryan Schofield, Matty Daly and Romoney Crichlow and Danny Grant all set for release.

B-team left-back Luke Daley is in discussions over a new deal, while Ben Midgley, Charles Ondo and Michael Stone will each have one-year extensions triggered.
