Hungbo played big part in the great escape...

SOME Huddersfield Town fans would love to see the club re-sign Joe Hungbo ahead of next season.

Hungbo showed flashes of his undoubted quality after arriving on loan from Watford in the January transfer window.

A quick, direct, skilful player, Hungbo scored three goals in 14 appearances to help the Terriers retain their Championship status. The great escape would not have happened without Hungbo.

Much has been spoken and written about Town’s January transfer business. It wasn’t great, was it? But Hungbo was one of the better additions. Not everything Hungbo tried came off.

He delighted and frustrated in equal measure. His decision-making and end product left a lot to be desired, at times, in the final third.

Yet Hungbo does not hide on the pitch. He always looks to get on the ball and make things happen.

He is someone who is prepared to take a risk in possession.

There were times when Hungbo proved a handy attacking outlet for Town.

A player capable of producing a moment of individual brilliance (his goals against Birmingham City and Reading underlined his match-winning capabilities). He was a point of difference. What the future holds for him remains unclear. It will be interesting to see if he is part of new Watford boss Valerien Ismael’s first team plans.

One thing is for certain, the Terriers have to add more pace and flair to their front line this summer.

Players who possess the ability to unlock wellorganised defences. Players who can get fans on the edge of their seats. Players capable of causing chaos high up the pitch. It is hoped youngsters Brahima Diarra and Pat Jones will step up to provide them with that X-factor in attack but it is a lot to put on their shoulders. As soon as the takeover is completed, new arrivals must be brought to beef up the squad and bolster the attacking department

Hungbo perfectly fits the profile of the type of player Town should be looking to sign. Someone who is young, hungry and with plenty of room for improvement.
