HIGH PRAISE FROM FAMILIES

LESS than three miles from Huddersfield Town Centre you will find a one-of-a kind leafy residential complex that boasts its own bar, swimming pool, gym, park- and even football pitch.

Woodland Glade estate, which sits just off Bradley Road, is an exclusive residential complex constructed in 1990 that is one of only two of its kind in the whole country.

It consists of 284 high-quality properties ranging from one bedroom apartments, to five bedroom detached luxury homes - but the facilities are the main selling point.

The thing that makes Woodland Glade unique to other estates in the area is that the homes all surround a lively leisure centre, which serves as the hub of village life and a perfectly safe environment for young families to relax and enjoy the impressive on-site facilities.

The site boasts a sizeable playground, tennis and squash courts, a 3G 5-a-side football pitch, a full equipped gym and a private luxury swimming pool.

There are also regular exercise clubs and classes for residents to ensure they are keeping healthy and meeting people. If that’s not enough there are is also a beautifully appointed function suite which has a licensed bar and serves as the centre for daily social gatherings.

The centre really serves as the heart of the community and residents are all very well acquainted with one another.

The function room can also be hired for parties and social gatherings and there’s always something going on according to residents.

So then it’s no wonder that those that live here love it so much they say they “never want to leave.” One family, who have lived on Woodland Glade estate for around 18 years said “it really is the best place to live!”

Louise Downing, 47, told Yorkshire Live: “When we moved in, we were firsttime home owners, this house has seen us get married, have our two children and navigate life! We didn’t really use the facilities until we had kids, maybe the bar every now and again, but now its all a massive part of our lives.

“The fully equipped gym helps us keep fit, the woodland is great for walks and nature, there are even deer living in it, the kids have weekly swimming lessons and football sessions, our daughter is even part of the estate girls football team which is flying up the league.

“There is always something happening during the holidays, bank holiday entertainment, BBQs, Christmas parties, Santa visits, fireworks, with our highlight of the year being Halloween, where there is a disco, fancy dress competition and pumpkin decorating for families.

“The bar is great, as a resident we get 20% off drinks, it’s a really nice way to get together with other families who live on the estate, kids are most welcome too.”

Louise continued: “One thing that really stood out for me was how everyone pulled together during the pandemic, we have an estate Facebook group which was full of support and help for everyone, when we ran out of toilet roll, there was some left on our doorstep within 30 minutes!

“Residents arranged a scarecrow festival which was so much fun. There is even someone on the estate that gives out food for people that might need it. I can’t see us ever moving from this estate, we just love the community, its reassuring to know our children are safe when they are out and about, there is always a friendly face and help if needed.”

WELL-EQUIPPED ESTATE WINS

Another resident, Cassie Martin, who lives on the estate with her three-yearold son couldn’t agree more.

She said: “Woodland Glade is a lovely family-friendly community and a wonderful place for a child to grow up. The surrounding woods include signposted maps, wildlife and the local woodscape team have put so much into making them accessible and fun, including play and exercise equipment made from wood.

“My son loves going to the three separate playgrounds and to the pool for a swim. The bar is family and dog friendly, which is not always easy to find elsewhere. We love living at Woodland Glade!”

The residents are rightly incredible proud of Woodland Glade, it comes as no surprise that the properties are so sought after.

The larger properties sell for anything between £350,000 and £400,000 for a four-bedroom detached house but residents say they never last long and always quickly get “snapped up” and some people have even had notes pushed through the door asking if they are interested in selling.

Woodland Glade seems to have the perfect balance of a woodland location whilst still being easily accessible to the local amenities and transport links for the daily commute. Junctions 24 and 25 of the M62 motorway are just five minutes drive by car. Huddersfield is just three miles, whilst Leeds is sixteen and Manchester twenty-eight with all the associated vitality of city life. A spokesperson for the Woodland Glade said: “The estate is only one of two such sites in England, the other being in Cheshire.

“The estate includes, for a monthly fee, automatic membership of Woodland Glade Sports Management Company Ltd (WGSMC), which gives access to all of our facilities, including a swimming pool, gym, squash court, 5-a-side football pitch and tennis/basketball court, as well as our bar area.

“We offer a range of activities, from weekly sports based class, a range of social pursuits and a series of one-off events in the bar.

“Our aim is to offer as a wide a range as possible so that there is something of interest for all our residents.”
