Super League deals done and reported
DONE DEALS Tom Burgess - South Sydney Rabbitohs to Huddersfield Giants
The Giants shocked the world when they confirmed the signing of the England international for the 2025 season. Burgess will leave South Sydney, where he has spent over a decade, to join Huddersfield for the remainder of his career.
It’s some signing for the club and kickstarted what looks set to be a very interesting recruitment cycle across all the clubs.
Ryan Hall - Hull KR to Leeds Rhinos
A romantic return to Headingley has been signed and sealed for Hall, who is closing in on Danny McGuire’s all-time try-scoring record. As first revealed by Rugby League Live, Hall will end his career as a Rhino after signing an initial one-year contract, before heading into an off-field role once he decides to hang up his boots.
Jared Waerea-Hargreaves Sydney Roosters to Hull KR
Burgess isn’t the only highprofile NRL forward heading to Super League next year. Jared Waerea-Hargreaves is widely regarded as one of the great props of his generation after helping Sydney Roosters to plenty of success. But he will be a Robin next year, after signing for Hull KR on a one-year contract in a move that will add plenty of firepower to the Rovers pack.
REPORTED DEALS Olly Russell - Huddersfield Giants to Wakefield Trinity
Another player on Wakefield’s radar early was the Huddersfield half-back, with Rugby League Live first reporting their interest in January. Giants head coach Ian Watson has gone on to suggest he has made a decision on his future, implying he is on the move.
Luke Yates - Huddersfield Giants to Warrington Wolves
Another very recent transfer story, Love Rugby League has reported that Warrington Wolves are one of the clubs chasing the Giants captain ahead of the 2025 season. They do have quota flexibility and his defensive qualities would benefit every team.
Tom Davies - Catalans Dragons to Hull KR
The transfer rumours started early this year, with Rugby League Live first reporting this on January 25th. Davies is off-contract at the Perpignan club at the end of the year and with Ryan Hall’s departure from Rovers now confirmed, it certainly adds weight to the idea that Davies could head to east Hull.
Lewis Dodd - St Helens to South Sydney Rabbitohs
One of the more recent reports has seen the English half-back linked with a move to the Bunnies. The Daily Telegraph reported on April 27th that Dodd had reached an agreement to join the NRL club, with the rugby director heading to the UK to sign off on a deal. That will leave Saints looking for a half-back.
Tom Johnstone - Catalans Dragons to Wakefield Trinity
This was the first transfer rumour ahead of the 2025 season, with Rugby League Live first reporting this story in December of last year! This was a deal many laughed off at the time but as more players have been linked with Wakefield since (more on that later), people are coming round to the idea that it really might happen. And what a signing it would be.
George King - Hull KR to Huddersfield Giants
On the eve of the recruitment window opening, it emerged that the Giants might have another prop joining their ranks. Rugby League Live revealed that Huddersfield had emerged as the frontrunners to sign King with a departure from Hull KR looking likely. King is under contract at Rovers, but his future now looks unclear.
Tommy Makinson - St Helens to Catalans Dragons
Catalans have been at the heart of a lot of the transfer rumours so far, but this potentially caught the eye the most. St Helens legend and England international Tommy Makinson has been linked with a move to the club next year, as revealed by Rugby League Live in January. Makinson is a one-club man but it looks like he’ll be heading to France.
