HUDDERSFIELD Town defender Brodie Spencer has said he is

‘gutted and disappointed’ after the club’s relegation from the Championship was confirmed.

Town were all but down heading into the final day of the campaign on Saturday, and had their fate sealed with a 2-0 defeat at Ipswich Town.

The Terriers ended the season with 45 points on the board from 46 matches played, as they finished six points adrift of fourth-from-bottom Plymouth Argyle.

Town now face the prospect of a first League One campaign since 2012, where the Terriers were promoted with a dramatic penalty shoot-out victory over Sheffield United in the play-off final, which ended an eight-season stay at the level.

Terriers’ head coach Andre Breitenreiter has stated that the club needs a ‘total reset’ following their relegation, with Town having hovered above the drop zone for much of the campaign before falling into the bottom three on two occasions in the latter part of the season.

Spencer was one of Town’s positive points in a disappointing campaign, with the defender featuring in every possible game for the Terriers following his recall from Motherwell in January.

The 19-year-old was sent out on loan to the Scottish Premiership outfit in the first half of the season, before going on to play 21 times for Town in the second part of the campaign, including 19 starts and two substitute appearances.

His efforts were ultimately in vain as the club couldn’t avoid the drop, and in a post on X, Spencer said: “Gutted and disappointed about the final result but thank you for all your support throughout the season.

“We rebuild and go again next season.”
