A WEST Hull man says he is furious after his chickens and pet ducks were stolen from his allotment in Newland Avenue.

The incident happened at about 12.30am on Tuesday.

Mr Smith, 58, also says he had onions and a glass table stolen. Luckily, he had a CCTV camera set up to capture still images.

“I had a wildlife camera set up in my allotment,” he said.

“The silly buggers threw it into the duck pond, but it’s waterproof. There were 20 chickens and two ducks, which were the wife’s pets.

“She brought them up from chicks. I’m fuming. My wife is very upset. They have also stolen a round glass table and onions that were growing in the ground.”

Mr Smith says over the past week or two, vegetables have been stolen from at least 20 other greenhouses and allotments on the Newland Avenue Allotments site.

He also says “quite a few” other sheds have been broken into with items stolen from them.

Mr Smith also had chillies and onions stolen last week.

My Smith says a shed he has on the site was also left with a big hole in on Monday and that a bucket of tools, belonging to the allotment next to it, were taken.

Mr Smith, who usually supplies others on the allotments with eggs from his chickens, said it was extremely frustrating.

“You work all year on the allotment and get things right for somebody to think they can come in and take them,” he said.

“There’s a group patrolling on a night now to put a bit of a presence on there.”

A spokesman for Humberside Police said: “We are looking into reports of theft of property from an allotment in Tavistock Street, Hull, reported to us September 18.

“The victim reports livestock, produce and equipment being stolen on two separate occasions on September 11 and 18.

“We are in touch with the victim and exploring a number of lines of enquiry.”

Anyone with information in connection with these incidents should call police on 101, quoting crime reference 16/98637/18.
