THE most oversubscribed primary and secondary schools in Hull and the East Riding this year have been revealed.

In the East Riding, the most popular secondary school is Wolfreton School and Sixth Form College.

There were 3.1 applications for every school place at St Mary’s. Just 60 per cent of those who put the school as their first choice secured a place for September.

The school had 1.6 first preference applications for each of its 300 places – 486 in total. Of those who put the school as their first pick, only 294 were successful.

Wolfreton was the hardest secondary school to get into in East Riding, with 90 per cent of those who put it as a first preference getting a place.

There were 1.1 first preferences for the places, a total of 285, for each of its 268 selective places offered.

In East Riding, 97 per cent (3,197) secured their first secondary choice school and 99.1 per cent (3,265) have places at one of their three choices.

But this means about 210 children in Hull and a further 30 children in East Riding did not get to start at one of their favourite secondary schools this year.

Maybury Primary School was the hardest primary school to secure a place at in Hull this September. The school had 1.5 first preferences for each of the 30 places offered, and just 65 per cent of those who put the school as their first choice getting a place.

Keldmarsh Primary School in Beverley was the hardest primary in East Riding to get into and saw 46 first preferences for 30 places – 1.5 per place – with just 65 per cent of parents who put it as a first choice being offered a place.

The data from the Department for Education is based on figures from National Offers Day, so data held directly by individual schools may differ, for example, because late applications were included.

The application deadline for applying for a reception place is January 15, next year, or October 31, for secondary applications.
