ASSISTANT manager Nigel Gibbs praised the Reading players for their intensity after they picked up their first home points in the Championship this season with a 3-0 win over Hull City.
Reading went ahead in the fourth minute when Sam Baldock pounced from close range after a Leandro Bacuna corner.
Hull offered little going forward and conceded twice more in the last 20 minutes.
Jon Dadi Bodvarsson tucked in his fifth goal of the campaign and defender Andy Yiadom added his first goal for the club.
Home centre-back John O’shea was sent off near the end for a last-man foul on Chris Martin, but Reading still eased to only their second victory of the season.
Gibbs, assistant to manager Paul Clement, said: “We started the game really well and you could see our intensity from the first minute.
“The intent was there to really go after Hull and the early goal settled us down as well. We deserved to go into the lead.
“We made some changes to the team to freshen it up and bring some fresh legs in.
“The players all performed very well and I thought that they thoroughly deserved their victory.
“We started the game really well, with the early goal, and the second goal came at a really good time for us.
“Hull were just getting back into the match, to be honest, but from then on we were able to see the game out.
“Three goals at home, our first clean sheet in the league – and the home victory has been a long time coming. It’s been a good day for us and that’s something to build on now.”
Up to Saturday’s win, Reading had lost half their Championship fixtures by a goal.
“It’s been a frustrating time for all of us. We’ve been working hard in training to get the right results. We’ve lost so many games by the odd goal,” said Gibbs.
“That clean sheet was one of the most important things. We’ve been working really hard for that. It gives everyone so much confidence.
“Now we can look forward to a really good week’s training and then another tough game away from home at Brentford.
“Our away form has not been too bad and we need to follow up this win with another good performance.”
