We have no idea where Labour Party stands

-

NOT for one second can the abuse of our local MPS via Facebook be condoned, it is totally unacceptable behaviour.

However, you can understand why they feel as aggreived as they do, and vent their feelings in such an unacceptable way.

I think it is fair to classify Hull as being a Labour city. In the Referendum the city voted to leave the EU. In the 2017 General Election the manifesto of the Labour Party confirmed it would honour the result of the referendum.

Given this commitment, it is not unreasonable therefore to assume that, as we elected the Labour candidates to represent us, they would pull out all the stops to ensure we left the EU in accordance with the vote.

The reality, of course, is that we have no idea of where the Labour Party actually stands. Corbyn seems to be far more interested in pressing for a General Election, as he actually believes he can be Prime Minister.

As for Diana Johnson, does she really believe her support of “indicative votes”, which includes the possibility of a closer alignment with the EU or even a second referendum, is honouring the result of the referendum?

Of course we did not expect you to simply rubber stamp any Government proposals, but we did think you would be work with the other parties in order to achieve Brexit as speedily and orderley as possible.

If the media reports are correct, and we have no reason to believe they aren’t, as a Parliament you have spent more time in interparty wrangling than implementing Brexit.

I cannot for one moment condone the behaviour on Facebook, but I can find agreement with the sentiment that you have failed those Labour supporters who voted for Brexit by your comparative silence throughout the Brexit period. Which is more than can be said for your two fellow Hull MPS.

Wansbeck Road, Hull. THERE was an error in my recent First Person (“Let’s not lose sight of serious issues such as poverty”, Mail Box, March 20).

The third paragraph was mangled in transfer from a Word document to email by me, not the Mail’s staff! I’m afraid I’m an IT dinosaur.

The explanation of how the minimum income standard is defined was unclear. It should have read: “It creates budgets for different households based on what the public think is a minimum acceptable standard of living in the UK. What is acceptable, changes. Technology is now a significant part of the social minimum, for instance a laptop, basic smart-phone and broadband cost less today than a landline and pay-as-you-go mobile did in 2008.”
