DEEP IMPACT

PRESENTERS TAKE AN IN-DEPTH LOOK AT HOW MAN’S ACTIONS ARE CAUSING HAVOC FOR PLANET’S MARINE LIFE

-

PREPARE to sit back in wonder, as we take another live look at our wonderful watery world. There’s no David Attenborough, but we’ve got the Beeb’s next-best naturalists in Chris Packham, Liz Bonnin and Steve Backshall.

Action man Steve is in the shark heaven of the Bahamas, and intends to tackle a live dive deep down in an eerie Caribbean wreck to search for a super-sized fish that’s upsetting

the natural order of things.

Chris is having a whale of a time in Mexico, on a quest to find the biggest creatures on Earth – blue whales. He joins a team studying these ocean giants, using a clever little gizmo called a ‘snotbot’ to check the whales’ health.

We’re also heading twenty thousand leagues under the sea with the crew of the expedition research vessel Atlantis, who are exploring the mysterious world of the deep ocean to show what impact there might be on the fragile marine ecosystem from increasing environmental pressure.

And it’s early morning Down Under, where Liz is based on a research station in the Great Barrier Reef, and where scientists are carrying out state-of-the-art work to try and find ways to ensure the reef’s survival.

They’re studying how temperature rises have impacted the natural wonder, and are attempting an ambitious project to capture spawning coral to restore the reef through IVF.

And prepare to be heartbroken and angry, as they look at how plastic is putting the planet’s turtles under threat of extinction.
