Putting the fun into fundraising for charity
SPECIAL EVENTS COMING UP TO HELP WORTHY CAUSES
ON Friday night, the Tony Blount Foundation is holding a charity night at the Inglemire in Inglemire Lane, west
Hull.
Named after Tony, who was killed by a drunk driver, the foundation was started in 2013 and the night will be its sixth charity event in aid of the road safety charity BRAKE.
Entertainment features the country sounds of the lovely JJ Mccoll, top vocalist Lynette, and Steve’s Disco will close the evening.
Entry is free with the usual fundraising activities all in aid of the road safety charity, including lots of prizes to be won in a megaraffle.
The Willows Sports and Social Club in Holderness Road, east Hull, is holding two great charity events over the coming week, starting this Friday night with A Night Of Glamour in aid of the Dove House Hospice.
The night features the top comedy cabaret act Miss Behave and The Glamour Girls, direct from Hisaronou in Turkey. One of the area’s premier fundraising nights, this year’s show includes a extensive list of the area’s top entertainers, including Ric Owen, Hutch, Ali James, Dan Furniss, Rachel Mills and the Corsairs.
In just a fortnight’s time, we are holding the first heat of the Mail’s annual talent competition, Star Search 2019, with a record number of entries are already received.
The first heat will be held on Tuesday, April 9, at The Ryder in Coltman Street, west Hull.
Some exciting new venues, like The Albion on Caroline Street, east Hull, The Hase in Swinegate in Hessle and Oscar’s Bar in Silver Street, Hull, have joined ranks with the likes of The Clarendon Hotel in Londesborough Street, The Willows Sports and Social in Holderness Road, The Grandale in Sutton Park, The Tiger’s Lair in Anlaby Road and The Inglemire in Inglemire Lane in support of the area’s premier talent competition.
The grand final is set for July 17, at Hull New Theatre and we are still looking for entries and for The Battle of the Bands section of the Star Search, which is sponsored by Ed Faulkner’s Tribfest and Mike Wilkinson’s ITSL Sound & Lighting.
The Mail is presently looking for additional venues to sponsor the last of the heats.
The other gigs of note this week include Jenna at the Ryder Club get-together this afternoon from 1pm to 4pm; on Friday night, 60s covers band The Corsairs are playing at the Constable Arms in Sproatley and on Saturday night you can catch the Mail’s current Star Search champion Rachel Mills at the Three Tuns in Boothferry Road, west Hull.
On Sunday afternoon, the Freedom Centre in Preston Road, east Hull, is holding a Mother’s Day special event in support of the Alzheimer’s Society from noon to 4pm with guest vocalist Gary Marsden.
On Sunday night, you can catch the excellent vocalist Simon Small at the Walton Club in Walton Street, west Hull.
