KR’S FORGOTTEN MEN 10 who turned out to be less than perfect!

- By WILLIAM JACKSON william.jackson@reachplc.com @Williamj93

Hull KR have enjoyed some memorable days since winning their first promotion to the Super League in 2006. They’ve shocked, surprised and come close to winning silverware under a host of different coaches.

Each coach has brought in their own players, with State of Origin stars, NRL winners and legends of the game all arriving at Craven Park.

But there’s also been some rather forgettable players over that time. Here, we take a look at ten you might have forgotten all about.

Darrell Goulding

In July 2014, Rovers took joy in announcing the signing of Darrell Goulding and rightly so, they had just landed an England international, who had spent ten seasons in and around the first team at Wigan.

Goulding signed a three-year deal and appeared in eight of KR’S first ten matches in the 2015, scoring just one try, but that’s where his KR career ended.

On the back of medical advice after a series of concussion injuries, Goulding retired from the game.

Dave Thompson

In 2016, Rovers took young Warrington Wolves winger Thompson on loan until the end of the Super League season.

With Josh Mantellato injured and Joe Wardill and Will Oakes travelling to Australia with England Academy, Thompson was brought in to provide cover in the wide spots.

However, after failing to make an impression on his debut against Huddersfield Giants a few weeks after joining the club, he dropped out of the side and made only one more appearance in the Qualifiers against Batley before returning to Warrington. He now plays for Whitehaven.

Wayne Ulugia

Ulugia was something of an unknown quantity when he made his way over to Craven Park from the NRL, having made just four appearances for North Queensland.

The winger was available after being sacked by the Cowboys for breaches in the club’s code of conduct and just two months after arriving in East Yorkshire, he met the same fate at Rovers.

After just three appearances, he was dismissed following a drinking session with his KR team-mate Jonny Walker after a loss to Warrington Wolves.

Ryan Bailey

The forward had spent his entire career with Leeds before the decision was announced that he would be joining Hull KR for the 2015 and given his stature in the game it was big news.

He made an impressive debut against Wakefield Trinity, but that proved his only appearance for the Robins.

Just one month into the season he was released due to personal issues, and a month later he signed for Castleford Tigers.

Justin Poore

After spending a season with Wakefield, the former New South Wales, Parramatta Eels and St George Illawarra prop landed at KR on a two-year deal for the start of the 2014 season.

He made seven appearances in the first ten games but never played another match for the club after suffering a fractured knee cap.

He was forced to go under the knife, but after several months of rehabilitation he called time on his career.

Jack Logan

Strictly Logan shouldn’t be in this list because he never played a game for the Robins, but ultimately that makes his time at the club all the more forgettable.

In July 2017, Hull FC youngster Logan joined KR on loan until the end of the season, in order to help Rovers win promotion back to the Super League, but never made it out on to the pitch.

Jason Chan

One of the more successful names on this list, Chan made the move to Rovers on loan from Huddersfield Giants at the back end of the 2014 season.

It was a miserable run of results for KR, losing four of their final six games, but Chan was a bright spark, scoring three tries before returning to Australia at the end of the season, despite a permanent deal being mentioned.

Dale Ferguson

The forward joined KR on a month long loan in February 2013 from Huddersfield but understandably never really settled at Craven Park.

He made four appearances and scored one try, before returning to play a major role for the Giants through the remainder of the campaign.

Jake Butler-fleming

Signed by KR in 2016 from Wentworthville Magpies, Butlerfleming was another unknown quantity, but the hope was he could help Rovers bounce back to the Super League.

He struggled for regular game time, though, with nine appearances coming in the second tier before he left for York City Knights on loan. He eventually joined York permanently at the end of the season.

Luke George

Another to arrive at the club on loan from Huddersfield. In April 2013, the outside back was struggling for game time under Paul Anderson and was subsequently sent to Craven Park for a month. He made four appearances for the club before returning to West Yorkshire with a knee injury.
