A HULL woman has told of her horror after finding a cat that had been killed and hung from a basketball hoop.

Michelle Skinner said that on Tuesday, March 31, she was walking her dog with her husband through the Greatfield estate at around 7am when she found the ginger cat.

She did not notice it until she saw Rusty, her Staffordshire bull terrier, was “looking up” at the basketball hoops at the Waudby Centre.

Mrs Skinner said: “We took Rusty for a walk as our daily exercise and had come down Bakewell Close and on to Hemswell Avenue and on to the little park and walked around.

“I threw Rusty’s ball and as we did she just kept looking up. She kept doing that and then we saw a ginger cat had been hung from it by a rope.”

Mrs Skinner said she felt “physically sick” when she realised what her dog was looking at.

She said: “I couldn’t believe it. It made me feel physically sick.”

Mrs Skinner said after discovering the cat, she also spotted a dirty needle on the floor.

She said she did not have any gloves on her, so as soon as she got home attempted to contact Hull City Council to make them aware, but could not get through.

She said: “I called the 300300 number, but couldn’t get through so left a message. When I went to walk the dog again later, it had gone. It was a little ginger cat, it must only have been about three years old.

“It was horrible, really awful. I can’t imagine who had done it some awful people.

“I could never harm an animal and don’t know anyone who could.

“No one who knows the loss of a pet could think to do such a thing. No animal deserves that.

“The poor cat could have been going out for a walk or anything - it could have been on its way home.” Mrs Skinner said she wanted to make people aware in case someone was missing their pet. She added: “It’s just awful. I hope it went suddenly and didn’t suffer.”
