A LITTLE boy from Kingswood has raised enough money to buy more then 200 tunics for care workers and nurses.

Bertie Rogerson, six, has undertaken a gruelling 10km run from his garden to help raise the money.

The run, which equalled 14,000 steps took place on Good Friday in Bertie’s back garden with his dad, Andy Rogerson.

The pair have managed to buy more than 200 tunics to give to essential care workers in their fight against coronavirus.

Bertie’s dad, Andy said: “We were thinking of different things we could do and Bertie was watching Clap for Carers and we decided to keep fit we would do a run around the garden, we did a bit more and then said, ‘Why don’t we see if people would sponsor him to do it?’

“We worked out how many steps a 10k would be on the Fitbit and it came to 14,000.”

Andy and his wife, Sam put it on their Facebook page and said they would be using the donations to support carers and the NHS and the donations soon went up.

Bertie loved the idea and on Good Friday he and Andy made their way to the garden to undertake the run.

Andy said: “He got a bit fed up of going around in circles. We raised £150.”

A friend of the family said he had access to tunics that can make up healthcare worker’s uniforms. Andy said: “He said at retail price you would usually get them between £10 and £20, but we could have about 200 for that price, and the key workers will have them free of charge. “We advertised them for anyone who needs them, or maybe running out of. Even if they are just for people caring for someone at home.”

Andy said Bertie was “really chuffed” at having raised enough money to buy the tunics.

Andy said: “He has been able to see what his running around has done and he can see what that means.

“He saw all of the different tunics that he has helped get to people. He says it made him feel really proud.

“He wants to do it again. It gave us a purpose to keep going and to give us something to do to help that wasn’t his home schooling too.

“He’s really proud.”

Bertie recorded a message for the people who donated and said “thank you” to everyone who supported him.

There are 200 tunics that are waiting to be given away in a variety of sizes.
