LOCKDOWN TRANSFORMATION

INSPIRATIONAL WEIGHT LOSS

A HULL woman has revealed her incredible lockdown weight loss.

Before and after pictures of Georgia Garbutt, 23, make her hardly recognisable after she rapidly lost more than 4st while many others were piling on the pounds.

After three months of being told not to leave home due to the coronavirus lockdown, many people found themselves struggling to maintain a consistent weight - let alone losing more than 4st.

Ms Garbutt, who is a resettlement worker, says having nowhere to go, but home and work, left her more focused than ever to shed some pounds.

“I just thought it was the only thing I could control at that time. All the other things going on I had no control of,” she said.

“I didn’t have any distraction. It was just going to work and going home.”

As of Monday, Georgia had lost an incredible 4st 8lb since March, largely down to her “second family” in her Slimming World group in Hull.

Despite several failed attempts in the past, she says the transition to Zoom meetings and the simplicity of lockdown combined to help her get to where she wants to be.

“I just don’t think I’ve ever really been ready in the past. I tired loads of times, but I’d never really been into it,” Georgia said.

“I’m feeling a lot better in myself. You just get that feeling that something just clicked.

“We have a video call every Monday and I was absolutely terrified the first week.

It is probably even better than being in the group.

“You have the same people routing for you every week.

“Without those Zoom calls I would be three stone heavier. It is like a second family really.

“I’m more confident now, happier and do a lot more exercise. I’m the same girl I was, but it was all hidden.

“I don’t stop dancing now. I don’t have to force a smile now. I’m a lot more open.”

She now wants her inspirational effort to act as a motivation for others.

Georgia shared her message on the Slimming World Local Success Stories, East & North Yorkshire Members Facebook page where she was congratulated by dozens of wellwishers.

In a bid to inspire others, she said: “This last couple of weeks have been tough, but I know I won’t have a perfect day every day and that’s okay. Tomorrow is a new day.

“Praise yourself for all the positive changes you make, even if they feel small, and all the non-scale victories you achieve.

“Wake up every morning and tell yourself ‘I can do this.’

“Keep filling your mind with positive thoughts and treat yourself with kindness and some days you may need some extra motivation.

“Keep reminding yourself of why you started this journey.

“It won’t happen overnight. It will take time, but it’s not a race and you don’t have to keep up with others.

“Lastly, I refuse to ever let myself be that girl in the first picture ever again, not just physically, but mentally.

“I use to hide in over-sized clothes and always wear a scarf, even on the hottest days, but today I put this outfit on three sizes smaller and I felt amazing.

“Learn to love yourself.”
