A TRIAL has been set for two former senior Humberside Police officers charged with sending grossly offensive and sexually charged Whatsapp messages about women they came across while on duty.

Former police inspector Scott Snowden and former superintendent Ed Cook are accused of exchanging the messages with each other about women they came across while working for the force, reports Grimsby Live.

Both men spent time working in Hull and the East Riding.

The initial hearing took place at Grimsby Magistrates’ Court however their cases have been transferred to Leeds Magistrates’ Court because of the sensitivities surrounding the matter.

Snowden, 48, of New Waltham, and Cook, 44, of Dunham-ontrent, Newark, will stand trial charged with sending a message by a public electronics communications network that was grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing nature in Scunthorpe between January 21, 2017, and October 12, 2018.

Having been named new resort manager for Cleethorpes earlier this year, Snowden had previously appeared before the Grimsby Magistrates’ Court where his case was adjourned to link up with that of Cook, who had not been present at that hearing.

The case was heard before Leeds district judge Marie Mallon and was adjourned for trial until September with both ex-officers granted unconditional bail.

Humberside Police has declined to comment until court proceedings are concluded.

Speaking at the appointment as time of his Cleethorpes resort manager, Snowden said: “I’m keen to get businesses large and small to work together for the benefit of the resort – that’s going to be the main focus of my work for the next year.

“We’re all here trying to do one thing – to make sure that Cleethorpes is a fun and safe place to visit, where people come and want to return.

“If, in a year’s time, I can look back and say that I’ve done my best to bring things together in the resort and we’re all working better together, I’ll be a happy man!”
