Cases more than double in 24 hours

NEARLY 300 cases of coronaviru­s have been confirmed in Hull and the East Riding in the past 24 hours.

Tuesday saw one of the biggest jumps in Covid cases in the region for months, but that has now been surpassed after 286 further cases were confirmed yesterday – the total now stands at 6,363.

Hull saw its daily figure more than double in 24 hours after 141 cases were reported yesterday compared to 62 from the day before.

The total in the city now stands at 2,775 with the infection rate jumping to 1,068.2 per 100,000 of the population.

East Riding saw its total rise to 3,588 – an increase of 122 in 24 hours – with the infection rate in the area now at 1,009.2.

It has also been confirmed that there has been a further death from coronaviru­s in Hull’s hospitals.

The NHS says the death occurred on Monday, October 19, with the death toll at Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital now at 222.

Nationwide, the death toll across the UK has increased to 44,158 after 191 people were confirmed to have died from Covid-19 within 28 days of testing positive, as of 9am on Wednesday.

The Government also said that there had been a further 26,688 lab-confirmed cases of coronaviru­s in the UK.

It brings the total number of cases in the UK to 789,229.

Separate figures published by the UK’S statistics agencies show there have now been 59,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificat­e.
