Black and Whites hope for good news on Shaul scans

ANDY Last has his fingers crossed as he waits patiently for the results of Jamie Shaul’s knee scan.

The full-back was taken off in the second half of Hull FC’S win over Castleford Tigers on Sunday after twisting his knee.

The interim head coach didn’t seem too concerned about the issue after the game at the KCOM Stadium, but having seen the incident back there are fears Shaul’s scan results might provide bad news.

Last has high hopes of seeing Shaul in action again sooner rather than later but he faces an anxious wait for news.

“With Jamie we’re waiting on the return of scan results from the knee injury he picked up against Castleford,” Last said.

“As and when we get that back we’ll be able to make a better assessment.

“There’s a bit of swelling in there but hopefully we might get some positive news with regards to Jamie.

“It looks a nasty one when we looked back at it on the video. So we’re waiting on the results back from a scan.

“The position his knee ends up being in and there’s no one around him would suggest it could be a bad one, but we’ve had situations where you fear the worst and you get positive news and vice versa. We’ll assess the scans and hopefully we’ll get positive news.

“Either way, if it is bad news the club will support Jamie in the best way they can and I’m sure if it is bad news he’ll bounce back from it.”

The head coach also provided an update on Albert Kelly, who is struggling to shake off the hamstring issue which has kept him out of the since last month.

“Albert Kelly trained the last press day (Friday) and that’s why he was named in the squad,” he added.

“Unfortunately after that session he had a negative effect and there was some swelling on the hamstring which created fluid on the back of the knee.

“We’ve had a look at it and unfortunately it means he wouldn’t have played against Catalans. We’ll have a look at that and try and get it rehabbed with a view to the coming weeks.”
