Closed nursery let down by the Government
THE Lib Dems in Hull have expressed their disappointment at the closure of Cherubs Nurseries in Hull as Lib Dem Councillor Maria Coward said: “I am devastated”.
Before Covid-19, Cherubs nurseries were providing many preschool aged children with education and parents with childcare.
However, students attending fell due to Covid and didn’t return to normal and now it will close.
Now parents are faced with finding a new place to take their children in Hull during the pandemic.
Lib Dem Councillor Alison Collinson for Boothferry area said: “Anlaby Road Cherubs Nursery had worked really hard and had recently got itself back up to a ‘Good’ Ofsted report, only for this Conservative Government to let it be closed permanently by the coronavirus.”
“This sends the wrong message; even if you work hard, this Government doesn’t care.”
“Residents have been left in limbo, between being pushed by this Government to go back to work and not having access to local childcare options. It isn’t on.”
Another Lib Dem Councillor Maria Coward, also for the Boothferry area, expressed her disappointment at her son losing his pre-school provision.
She said: “The children have been let down in Hull and their educational development hurt by this Conservative Government. The Government should have helped keep it open.
“I was told in the letter I received from Cherubs that the council would be able to find another place for my son. I emailed them as soon as I got the letter and have received nothing so far.
“I want to thank the hardworking staff for the support they offered my son. I really wish them well, especially in these most dire of times.”
Councillor Jack Haines, Liberal Democrat Group Hull City Council.
