Last discusses head coach job speculation

-

ANDY Last says he won’t let speculation surrounding the permanent head coach position at Hull FC stop him doing his job.

Ian Watson revealed on Monday that he had held discussions with FC owner Adam Pearson but will not be taking over at the KCOM Stadium from next season.

The club are set to step up their pursuit of a new head coach in the coming weeks and it is thought Last will be one of a number of candidates considered for the position.

The current interim head coach has made it clear he would like to be considered for the role after guiding the club through stormy seas over the last couple of months and he hopes ending the season well can stand him in good stead.

“Yeah I can,” Last said, when asked if he could focus on the job in hand and shut out outside noise.

“What happens here is the team are getting a coach who is fully committed to the job that he’s got, the players have bought in to what I’m asking them and the performances have certainly started to improve.

“I can’t control what the club and the owner and the CEO are thinking in regards to the head coach position, they’re entitled to do what they’ve done and they informed me that they were going to be taking applications and enquires which I think is the right thing from the club’s point of view.

“I’ve made it clear to them that I want the job and I’m just going to continue working as hard as I can and hope that performances and how the players respond and the way I go about business will serve me well as and when those decisions are made.”
