Sustainablet i bl urban village
SUSTAINABILITY is a defining characteristic of Hull’s Fruit Market urban village.
The area has been transformed in just a few years from near dereliction into a thriving mixed-use community.
The £80m regeneration project is being driven by the Wykeland Beal joint venture of commercial developer Wykeland Group and housebuilder Beal Homes.
They have worked with Hull
City Council to reinvent the Fruit Market as a commercial, creative and cultural quarter.
Wykeland Beal has respected the area’s heritage while creating commercial spaces that enhance the local environment and building energy-efficient homes supporting sustainable city living.
The Fruit Market now features dozens of independent businesses, a high-quality residential development and a pioneering tech campus. The investment is continuing with the latest construction phase featuring Arco’s £13 million HQ.
Wykeland managing director Dominic Gibbons said: “We’re delighted to support these awards and to recognise organisations that share our commitment to sustainability and environmental good practice.”
Beal chief executive Richard Beal added: “These values feature strongly in the Fruit Market, where we have developed brownfield sites in one of the most historic areas of Hull, while also restoring and bringing back into sustainable economic use buildings with heritage value that would otherwise have gone beyond repair.”
