A ROUND-UP OF THE LATEST NEWS FROM THE MEDICAL WORLD
MOST WOULD GET COVID VACCINE
TWO out of three people have said they would be likely to get a Covid-19 vaccine when one is available, according to research.
Nearly one in 10 (9%) people told a survey they were unlikely to have the coronavirus vaccination, while 27% have stated they were unsure about being immunised.
The findings, published in the journal Human Vaccines & Immunotherapeutics, are based on a demographically representative sample of 1,500 adults in the UK.
HUGE BOOST FOR CANCER DETECTION
A BLOOD test that may be able to spot more than 50 types of cancer will be piloted by the NHS, chief executive Sir Simon Stevens has announced.
The Galleri blood test, which can detect early stage cancers through a simple blood test, will be piloted with 165,000 patients.
Research on patients with signs of cancer suggests the test can identify many types that are difficult to diagnose early, such as head and neck, ovarian, pancreatic, oesophageal and some blood cancers.
The test could help meet the NHS goal of increasing the proportion of cancers caught early, which can be the key to reducing cancer mortality.
KEEP LOOKING AFTER YOUR TEETH
THERE are simple ways to enjoy this year’s (admittedly limited) festivities without damaging your teeth.
“Acid from bubbly drinks, such as sparkling wine or fizzy pop, can have a long-lasting effect on your teeth causing erosion,” says Megan Fairhall, dental hygienist at London’s Harley Street Dental Clinic.
“Drink alcoholic drinks through a straw and try to alternate with water to help rinse your mouth.”
Brush your teeth twice daily with a fluoride-based toothpaste.
Megan recommends Regenerate Enamel Science Advanced Foaming Mouthwash in-between meals for added protection.
