BENJI Marshall will not be joining Hull FC despite reports emerging Down Under suggesting that he is in talks with the club.

Reports have suggested the Black and Whites are in talks with Marshall regarding a move that would see him become the highest paid player in the Super League.

However, the Mail understands a deal is not on the table for the former Wests Tigers half-back with the club exploring other options as they hunt for a new number six.

Having appointed Brett Hodgson as the club’s new head coach last week, FC have turned their attentions to landing a stand-off to bolster the new man’s options and creative output as he begins preparations for the 2021 Super League season.

It is believed they are willing to make use of the competition’s marquee rule in order to land the right man and as a result Marshall was one of several men identified.

The club did make contact with Marshall’s representatives and discussed the possibility of a move to the KCOM Stadium, however, talk of a deal worth £400,000 is thought to be way off the mark.

Nevertheless, FC have decided to go in a different direction and they have a number of targets in mind.

Hodgson has made no bones about his desire to land a half-back over the off-season and a move for his former team-mate gives an idea of the standard of player the club are looking for to complement his appointment.

The new head coach also claims to be on the lookout for a new middle man and an outside back as he looks to strengthen the squad he has inherited.

Marshall is known to have interest from a number of NRL clubs and it seems highly unlikely that he will be making the move over to the Super League ahead of next season.
