Fleming: No-brainer to sign a new deal at Tigers

DEFENDER ADMITS HE MAY HAVE TO GO OUT ON LOAN

Signing a new contract at Hull City was a no-brainer, admits defender Brandon Fleming. The left-back agreed fresh terms at the KCOM Stadium last month to see him remain at his hometown club for at least the next two years, though he admits a loan move to get more first team experience is not beyond the realms of possibility.

And the 21-year-old celebrated his new deal by producing a fine display on his return to League One action on Saturday in the 2-0 win over Charlton, coming in for Callum Elder.

Fleming followed Jacob Greaves in committing his immediate future to the club, before Welsh Under-19 international Callum Jones followed suit yesterday afternoon.

Despite playing a key part in the clean sheet win over the Addicks, Fleming admits he’s open to the possibility of a loan switch if it helps his longer-term aims to become a first team regular.

“It was a no-brainer,” he told the club website.

“I wanted to get the contract pushed over the line. It gives me some security and the base to go and play games, even if it comes on loan somewhere

“I feel like I played well on Saturday so we’ll see what happens in the next few weeks and hopefully I’ll keep my place in the team because what I want to do is play for Hull City and that will always be my main aim.”

Saturday’s start was just Fleming’s second in the league, with his first coming in the opening day win at Gillingham.

The academy product has found regular left-back Callum Elder in fine form ahead of him, but says he can have no complaints and will not be knocking on Grant Mccann’s door demanding to know why he’s not in the team.

“It’s just one of those things,” he admitted.

“Callum (Elder) has been playing really well. We push each other every day in training and there is a really healthy competition for the position.

“When I get my chance I just do my best to try and take it and that’s all I can do.

“When Callum plays the way he has been doing recently I can’t really go knocking on the gaffer’s door because he’s playing really well.”
