A COMPASSIONATE children’s nurse who lost her battle with cancer has been remembered with a fitting tribute on Hull Royal Infirmary’s 13th floor, where she spent her entire career caring for others.

Claire Goacher, who was described as having “the biggest smile around” was just 40 when she lost her battle with cancer a year ago this week.

She was “truly proud” to be a nurse and her motto was to “live your best life”, which colleagues say really reflects her bright and sunny personality.

Now, a bright rainbow bench has been installed outside Ward 130 as a tribute to the paediatric nurse, who had worked there since 2005.

The bench incorporates a specially engraved plaque, and has been made possible thanks to the fundraising efforts of the Ward 130 team and the WISHH Charity - The Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals Health Charity.

It means anyone visiting the ward can see the colourful bench which is a lasting reminder of the dedicated nurse.

She said: “Beautiful person inside and out. Claire was the kindest most selfless person you would ever meet, beautiful.

“In this life, you don’t meet many people like Claire, whom is held in the most highest esteem.

“Also fantastic nurse and colleague friend too, miss her.”

Claire Louise said: “Lovely tribute to a beautiful colleague.”

El Peacock described Claire as a “lovely lady”.

She said: “Claire cared for my nine-week-old when she had sepsis in 2013, what a lovely lady she was.”

A BRANSHOLME dad says he is frightened of the estate he lives on after having his window smashed.

The 21-year-old, who wishes not to be named, has been left both annoyed and scared as a result of his kitchen window being smashed in Littleham Close at about 9.40pm on Tuesday.

Speaking of the “big smash”, he said: “I was sitting in my living room watching TV and I heard a load of banging so my brother looked out the window. But no one was there so we sat back down then all I heard was the kitchen window getting smashed.

“It made me jump because it was quiet one minute and then I just heard a big smash. I went out to see if anyone was there but they were gone so I rang the police. I have a five-monthold baby as well, but I was quite lucky because he was at his mum’s house.”

The dad went on to highlight his concerns on antisocial behaviour across the estate, stating that a group of kids have been “causing trouble” in the area.

“I have no idea who would have done it, but I know there is a group of kids causing trouble on Bransholme,” he said.

“They have been trying to kick garages down and going around trying to cause trouble with people and their houses and cars.

“There has been quite a lot of stuff happening on Bransholme. The other day that man’s body was found in Noddle Hill and then someone was robbing Bransholme Centre yesterday. It’s quite scary living here.”

The Littleham Close resident then said that the incident has meant that his mental health has taken a hit, saying: “I suffer with mental health issues, like anxiety and depression and it does make me feel worried.

“I’ve rang the council but they said they have to wait for someone to come and board it up and put a window in when they can get one fitted and measured up.” A spokesman for Humberside Police said: “A report of criminal damage was made to us at 9.40pm yesterday evening after an object was allegedly thrown at the window of a property in Littleham Close, Bransholme, Hull. “The occupant of the address reported that the thrown item cracked the window on the outside. Our initial enquiries have shown nobody to have been hurt in the incident.

“We would urge anyone who might have witnessed this or knows anything about the incident is asked to call us on 101, quoting crime reference number 16/22841/21.”
