First image of ‘Amazon’ warehouse set to create 1,500 jobs in the region
MORE DETAILS OF PROJECT SUBMITTED TO PLANNERS
THE first pictures of the proposed “Amazon” warehouse, which is set to provide 1,500 jobs, have been published online.
The huge warehouse is still to be approved by planners but submissions made the council show just how it could look if given the go-ahead.
It is expected the project would take 17 months to build but be potentially transformational to East Yorkshire’s jobs market at a time when it is needed most.
New plans have been published on the East Riding Council planning site, meaning computer-generated images have been made available for the first time since discussions got under way about the proposed development.
If approved, the facility will be built at Melton West business park, just off the A63 close to North Ferriby.
The development will create new direct warehouse, specialist and professional jobs, across a wide range of functions, from warehouse operatives to engineering, IT, health and safety, procurement, fulfilment, supply chain management, operations, administration and finance roles.
Commenting on the plans, developer Wykeland’s development director Jonathan Stubbs said: “The new images illustrate how the facility will occupy a key plot at Melton West, benefiting from the existing infrastructure on and around the business park, which will be enhanced by a new roundabout approved under a previous planning consent.
“It will complement other facilities at Melton West and is consistent with the long-standing designation of the site for major employment uses of this kind.
“Most importantly, planning approval for this development will generate thousands of jobs and provide a huge economic stimulus that will be crucial to the region’s post covid recovery.
“The images are among a comprehensive package of further information addressing comments and questions prompted by the planning application and consultation process, including a Zoom Webinar attended by more than 200 local residents at the beginning of December.”
The proposed logistics centre, with a footprint of 558,000 sq ft, would be the latest major development at the 200-acre business park.
However, concerns have been raised by residents over the potential presence of extra traffic on the roads.
As part of the development Wykeland also submitted a Wildlife Enhancement Plan detailing landscaping, ecological and biodiversity measures, including planting more than 9,000 new trees and more than 27,000 new plants and shrubs, to maintain and enhance wildlife in the area which is currently open fields to the west of North Ferriby village.
