Warning after coastguard rescue

-

THREE people and two dogs being saved during a dramatic cliff rescue has sparked a warning from Hornsea Coastguard.

The coastguard crew said the three people and their two dogs became cut off by the tide at the base of the cliffs at Rolston.

A lifeboat was sent but, due to the difficult sea conditions, the Coastguard had to rescue the people with a rope and helicopter.

A spokesman for Hornsea Coastguard said on Facebook: “The Hornsea team located the casualties cut off by the tide at the base of the cliffs at Rolston.

“A Hornsea Inshore Rescue crew member was put ashore and an attempt was made by the lifeboat to recover the casualties by sea.

“Unfortunately, due to the difficult sea conditions, this was not possible and it was decided to recover the casualties up the cliff by rope rescue and by helicopter, so Coastguard Rescue 912 was requested.

“The lifeboat crew member stayed with the casualties to provide reassurance until a Coastguard cliff technician was lowered down to them.

“Coastguard Rescue 912 successfully rescued the three persons by winch back to the top of the cliff while our Coastguard cliff technician recovered the two dogs using our specialist dog rescue bag and then recovered the Hornsea Rescue crew member.”

The Coastguard warned people to check tide times and to call for help if they found themselves trapped.

They said: “Please remember to check tide times and if you find yourself at risk of being cut off by the tide, do not try to climb the cliffs.”
