Three fly-tippers prosecuted after dumping rubbish

TWO men and a woman have been ordered to fork out hundreds of pounds after being caught red-handed fly-tipping in Hull.

Hull City Council clamped down on the offending residents after CCTV cameras caught them in the act.

Danut Volovaci, of Suffolk Terrace, Hull, was prosecuted and ordered to pay £826 after a mobile CCTV camera caught him fly-tipping a sofa in Suffolk Street, off Beverley Road.

Sofia Musi, of Blaydes Street, north Hull, was also prosecuted and ordered to pay £1,451 after a mobile CCTV camera caught her dumping household waste in Haworth Street on two separate occasion’s last tear.

Michal Stanek, of Spring Bank, Hull, was prosecuted and ordered to pay £684 after a CCTV camera captured him dumping bags of household waste in a public grassed area near West Parade, Spring Bank, Hull.

Doug Sharp, head of waste management at Hull City Council, said: “This action shows that we will not let people get away fly-tipping in our city.

“Our CCTV and mobile cameras have led to these successful prosecutio­ns, and shows that the council will continue to take a tough line on fly-tipping.

“Fly-tipping is extremely harmful to the environmen­t and causes unnecessar­y cost to the council to clean it up. There are plenty of lawful ways to dispose of your waste in the city.”

To ensure waste is not fly-tipped, residents should follow these guidelines: with

■ Dispose and waste through collection­s.

■ To dispose of unwanted bulky household items, call 01482 300300 or visit hull.gov.uk

■ All household waste and recycling sites remain open and social distancing rules should be followed.

■ If you use a contractor, always ask recycle household regular kerbside

to see a waste carrier’s licence and check them out with the Environmen­t Agency by calling 08708 506506 or visit the Environmen­t Agency website.

■ Residents can report fly-tipping by calling 01482 300300, or visit www.hull.gov.uk/environmen­t/ environmen­tal-crime/caughtcame­ra to identify those caught illegally dumping waste.
