Man in court over robberies at city shops

A HULL man has appeared in court after shop staff were threatened with a knife in three terrifying robberies.

Tony Johnson, 28, of Kilnsea Grove in Hull, has been charged with three counts of robbery following the attacks at shops on Marfleet Lane and Preston Road between May 5 and 8.

He has also been charged with theft from a Marfleet Lane on

April 28.

Mr Johnson has already appeared at Hull Magistrate­s’ Court and will appear at Hull Crown Court at a later date.

A spokeswoma­n for Humberside Police said: “A 28-year-old Hull man has been charged following his arrest yesterday for a series of robberies where staff were threatened with a knife and goods were stolen.

“The robberies happened at shops on Marfleet Lane and Preston Road in Hull between May 5 and 8, 2021.

“He was also charged with theft from a shop in Marfleet Lane on April 28, 2021.”
