HODGSON HAPPY WITH DEBUT MAN

BRETT Hodgson was delighted to see Jack Logan kick-start his second spell with Hull FC with a try and a solid performance.

The centre re-signed for the club on a four-week loan deal last week and following Jordan Lane’s late withdrawal from the team, he was thrust into the starting line-up to face Huddersfield Giants on Friday night.

In a much-changed side, Logan slotted back into the FC side relatively seamlessly, and grabbed himself a try in the second half after plucking a Marc Sneyd kick out of the air.

“I thought he was very solid,” Hodgson said. “We literally only had the one session where he was in our system and he tried to get to grips with what we want to do, in particular defensively.

“I thought he was busy, he took some tough carries and he finished his try off well.

“It’s very easy if you make an error to go into your shell and not want to be involved in the game but I thought he stayed consistently in the contest and I’m very happy with the start to his journey with us again.”

Logan wasn’t the only new face in the Hull squad on Friday as Mitieli Vulikijapani made a home debut and academy products Aidan Burrell and Marcus Walker were named on the bench for the very first time.

Unfortunately, the tight nature of the game meant only 17-year-old prop Burrell made it onto the field, appearing for the last couple of minutes and taking in one carry, while Walker watched on from the bench.

“It was very difficult to get them on with the scenario of the game and what it was,” he added.

“They’ve both come through the academy system, they’re both Hull born players and we’re pleased with what they’ve done in the academy and how they’re training.

“Our players knew them because they’ve done a little bit with us in the preseason.

“Aidan is a tough kid, he works extremely hard and the players trust that he can do the job for us when required.

“I would have liked to get them more minutes but the way the game was progressing, it was difficult to do that and to throw them in the deep end without too much continuity as a team would have been difficult for them and us as a squad. I’m happy Aidan got on and he became our newest debutant.”
