Food business offers jobs help

-

A LOCAL food manufacturing business wants to open its doors to hire the workers affected by the Hessle factory fire last week.

The fire tore through the Bridgewood UK plastics factory on Wednesday, November 26. Within hours, the factory was burned to the ground, leaving its workers out of work just before the festive season.

Steve Humphrey, 46, the owner and managing director of the Tuber Group, said his head office is situated less than a minute away from the factory that burned down in Priory Tech Park.

When he heard about what happened, he said he felt like he needed to step in to offer the people who have gone out of work a job to tide them over the Christmas season.

He said: “I really feel for them. In the business world, especially, we all need to help each other. I’d like to think if something similar happened to us, someone would do the same thing.

“Especially with it being so close to Christmas.

“It’s a shock, isn’t it? One minute you’ve got your job and the next minute you don’t.

“With it being so close to my office, I am aware of what they are facing myself. It would be a good gesture around this time.”

Steve said the company has ten factory operative roles to offer in its Saxon Foods, Scunthorpe, location and it will be giving precedence to those affected by the fire.

He added that the roles will be general factory work, so they will be accepting anyone who wants to work and providing them with an induction and training on-site before they start.

People interested in the roles can email recruitment@ saxonfoods.co.uk to get in touch with Steve Humphrey.
